Now and Then
When the arrival of the First Fleet came to New Holland in 1770, the convicts who were on the First Fleet were enslaved and had to work very hard by cutting trees down to build houses for shelter, plough the soil so they could provide food for themselves to survive.

Life has changed dramatically over the years since Captain James Cook landed in Australia. More buildings have been made as the population increased. But majority of the changes include:
- Pollution
- Traffic
- Buildings
- Trees cut down and environmental loss
- Roads and recreational gounds built
Pollution: Pollution is a big thing when it comes to the 21st century. We can see pollution everywhere; in water, drains, roads, grass areas and even air. Pollution is a big problem as it happens due to an increase of population and people's lack of attention to 'Do The Right Thing'.
Traffic: Traffic occurs when there are thousands of tourists who want to come to destinations such as Cronulla Beach or the Royal National Park. Everyone drives vans or cars as it is convenient; the councils have provided carparks nearby the area.
Buildings: Buildings such as hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes are built to ensure visitors are having a great time. And once again, more convenient for visitors rather than taking a bus to the city and eating there. In the Shire, buildings are a great place to be built there as 'The Shire' has many water views and makes it relaxing.
Trees: Trees are being cut down so there is room for a house or building to be built there. They may cut down trees for reasonable purposes such as libraries, as 'The Shire' is an urban city, swimming pools, parks and even ports.
Roads and recreational grounds: They are built as a result of population growth and visitors/ tourist attractions.
